So after what seemed like a never ending string of packing, unpacking and repacking for travel I have a small reprieve from travel. I’m home bound for about a month and a half which means I can focus on some projects that require me to be home for a change. As much as my work allows me to travel with it I sometimes just need some time in space I consider mine. The concept of space for work is expanding. The one thing I have learned as a freelancer is that space is extremely important. 80% of the time I can’t work at home as the distractions are too much for me. Laundry, dishes, TV, bed, personal projects. The Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar has always been a haven for me for my creative and brainstorming sessions. It’s my second home in C’ville and the people here are like family and creative productivity flows. The book I am working on, 3 dance choreographs, and this business was forged and brainstormed in this space and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Now C’ville has a new space that is singing it’s “siren’s song” at me for a more “work” environment.

Open Space is a co-working space for people looking for open work space for computer work, meetings and presentations. It’s a new option compared to the coffee house or home. I went to check it out on the encouragement of my partner as he used it for a photo shoot. I will admit I was impressed. It triggered a more “work” ethic in me with the set up and I was already thinking about the options that I could have as far as brainstorming and working with my long distant clients. Also it makes for a great environment for on site meetings and such. Something that would work perfectly if the Tea House doesn’t cut it.

The concept is very modern and open. Snacks and drinks available in the kitchen, gallery space, meeting rooms, and a great place to network with other small businesses and freelancers. I got a free day pass and will more than likely be checking it out in the next week or so to see if it is an environment that encourages. Personally I am just excited to see something like this in Charlottesville. Usually such spaces are reserved for cities like NYC, Philadelphia or Boston. I know I have alot of city friends who call C’ville “the sticks” but it’s building itself in just the right amounts for my takes.
